Kaloko Honokohau National Park, near Kona Inter. Airport, is a coastal park to learn about early Hawaiians on the Kona coast. Kealakekua Bay State Park, is a perfect setting for snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking. 12 miles south of Kailua-Kona. The white Captain Cook monument is across the bay. Puuhonua o Honaunau National Park, is on Hwy 160 at Honaunau Bay in South Kona. This historical City of Refuge is where ancient Hawaiians who broke the kapu laws could avoid death by fleeing to. Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site, on the Kohala Coast, near Kwaihae Harbor, preserves the last major Hawaiian temple site. Lapakahi State Historical Park, is an Ancient Hawaiian fishing village, 11 miles north of Kawaihae on Highway 270.
